The extract -> modify -> re-compress route wasn't viable either since apparently the compression somehow messed with the formatting and Minecraft didn't recognize the resulting file. This app can extract an archive, it can compress something into an archive, but it can't open or edit an archive.
#Install minecraft mod mac mac osx
The way I heard it from another Mac user is that Mac OSX has a built in free archive app.

Mind, this info ids from several months ago so it might be no longer relevant. It may have something to do with the fact Macs apparently don't have a proper free archive manager. The launcher will redownload any tampered official files, unofficial files which you add yourself are overlooked FAIK. You add the classes to a custom jar file and make a custom version entry (from what I know copy the version folder of the version you wish to use, rename the folder and jar file and edit the JSON file to reflect that) then use it. The reason why you don't use it determines how we respond to you.Īnyways, it should be virtually the same as on Windows. You could want to use a mod that seemingly doesn't work with Forge but in actuality, does, and we'd correct that for you. You could wrongly think that Forge is an optional way to install mods easier (now that you've answered my question indirectly, I know this is not the case), of which case we'd correct that for you. It does as your reasoning changes our responses.

I know you can do it windows, but I can't figure it out on mac. I'm just wondering if you can still do it on mac. I would just recompile the changed code and add it back to the jar like how it used to be before they changed to the new launcher. I like editing the code myself and changing a few things around without making a mod for it. But it's not just mods that other people make.
